Stebbins-St. Michaels Microgrid
Battery Energy Storage Solution
720 kW / 864 kWh
Stebbins, Alaska
Completed 2023
System Goal: Enabling the Stebbins-St Michaels microgrid to save 100,00 gallons of diesel annually by allowing the wind and diesel generation to seamlessly integrate in diesels-off or low load scenarios. The battery energy storage system helps to stabilize the remote Alaskan microgrid, allowing the AVEC system to optimize fuel consumption.
Kronus provided services in the following areas to help Stebbins reach its battery system goals:

-
System design and customization
-
Temperature calculations due to high temps in the summer and extreme cold in the winter.
-
System assembly
-
Complete system testing
-
Onsite installation and commissioning
Kronus examined the project goals, site demands, energy storage needs, safety certification requirements, and desired control functions and came up with a custom battery energy storage system for Stebbins that includes the following:

-
A rugged and durable container due to the extreme weather this area faces.
-
Pylontech batteries and Oztek RS40 inverters for their robust nature and capacity.
-
Custom Kronus battery control system specific to the requirements of the customer to integrate into their existing microgrid controller that manages generators, wind turbines, and the battery system.
